Celebrating Women’s Leadership

Lessons from Mom this Women’s History Month
By Liz Kolleeny Tankel, VP Legal Bond Vet

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, I am profoundly inspired by the trailblazing women who paved the way for future generations—especially my mother. As a successful portfolio manager for mutual funds at large financial companies in the 1980s and 1990s, and later managing hedge funds in the early 2000s, she navigated a primarily male industry with remarkable resilience and tenacity. Over the course of her career, she managed several billion dollars in assets, showcasing her exceptional ability to lead and make impactful decisions in a challenging environment.

I’ll never forget her story from a conference in the early 90’s where, after raising her hand to ask an insightful question, the panel dismissively remarked, “Of course, the woman has a question.” Rather than allowing that to discourage her, she forged ahead with unwavering strength, proving that women belong in every room where decisions are made and reinforcing the belief that intelligence and capability know no gender. Her legacy of determination continues to inspire me and countless others striving to break barriers in their own fields.

At Bond Vet, I’m proud to be part of a culture that empowers leadership and values every voice. My advice to women is to tap into your unique strengths and assert your presence—your insights matter.

As my mother influenced me, I am thrilled to be a role model to my children. Recently, I took my son’s class to one of our clinics, where they had the opportunity to see women and men working collaboratively in both caring and technical roles. As they observed women in leadership positions, managing teams and providing compassionate care for animals in need, it was heartwarming to witness their genuine curiosity. They were eager to understand the various responsibilities and skills that everyone brought to the table, regardless of gender.

This Women’s History Month, let’s honor those who inspire us and commit to lifting each other up. Together, we can create inclusive spaces where everyone thrives.

Happy Women’s History Month!
